What characterises the development of the East German start-up landscape since the end of the GDR? What role do regional conditions play in this? Prof. Michael Wyrwich (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen/Netherlands) in their article "Entrepreneurship and Knowledge as Drivers of Regional Development" for the Policy Brief series "Entrepreneurship in Focus".
One result: According to the study, East German regions in which there were already private enterprises at the time of reunification and the employees had a high level of qualification coped better with the abrupt transition to a market economy than regions without these conditions.
