Participation in external events Entrepreneurship in other political regimes

What characterises entrepreneurship in states that are not democratically western-oriented? What challenges does this pose for the entrepreneurship research? What opportunities does this offer for contextual research?

Prof Dr Friederike Welter (IfM Bonn/University of Siegen) informed about her earlier research "Entrepreneurship in Transitional Contexts" at the symposium "Entrepreneurial Strategies in Developing Economies" at the 82nd Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management (AOM) in Seattle at the beginning of August. She pointed out that she had learned to step out of her own cultural context by working with researchers in the former socialist countries: "Stepping out of my own cultural context helped me not only to see the contextualized nature of entrepreneurship. I also started to question the applicability and generalizability of ‘Western’ entrepreneurship theories. Ultimately, going beyond the familiar research contexts clearly shows us the variety and diversity of entrepreneurship.”

At the AOM in Seattle, Prof. Dr. Susanna Khavul (San José State University/USA) also presented the research results "Orchestrating the Performance of Equity Crowdfunding Platforms", on which Dr. Jonas Löher worked together with Prof. Dr. Saul Estrin (London School of Economics/UK) and Prof. Dr. Alexander Kritikos (DIW Berlin).
