Prof. Dr. Friederike Welter (IfM Bonn/University of Siegen) partied the SME Envoy Meeting at the invitation of the European Commission in early October. In her keynote speech, she explained why the Covid 19 pandemic is an opportunity to put an end to the previous small-scale and short-term economic policy for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and to initiate a forward-looking European Mittelstand policy.
"So far, EU measures have mostly addressed (supposed) size-related disadvantages of SMEs. But SME policy should not be limited unilaterally to quantitative targets. Instead, it is recommended to release the manifold entrepreneurial potentials in the EU Member States", says the IfM President.
