How does the innovation system in Germany support small and medium-sized companies? What role do universities and Fraunhofer Institutes play in SMEs' innovation activities, and to what extent does dual the dual education system contribute to their economic success? These and other questions were discussed with Dr Siegrun Brink, Dr Christian Schröder and Dr Sebastian Nielen by Prof. Hiroshi Nagano and Tomoko Sawada (both Japan Science and Technology Agency) at the beginning of February in the IfM Bonn.
The IfM researchers explained based on the current study on the innovation activity of Mittelstand enterprises during the Covid pandemic the innovation behaviour and their impact on the economic success of SMEs in Germany.
