In the political discussion, there is always the worry that rural areas and the companies located there are disadvantaged compared to urban regions in using new digital technologies.
Dr Jörg Thomä (Volkswirtschaftliches Institut für Mittelstand und Handwerk (ifh) Göttingen) shows in his policy brief "Digitalization activities in the small enterprise sector: an urban-rural issue?" that it only matters at advanced stages of digitalisation whether a company is located in an urban or rural region.
