Participation in external events What motivates adolescents to start a business?

How and why do adolescents start a business? Dr Jonas Löher gave answers to this question in his presentation "The Motivational Background of Teenpreneurs: The Case of Germany" at this year's "Research in Entrepreneurship and Small Business" (RENT) conference. He reported that minors under the age of 18 mainly set up businesses in the IT services or online retail sectors.

They mainly start their own business to gain experience. Financial motives, by contrast, tend to play a subordinate role.

The RENT conference took place from 15 to 17 November in Gdansk, Poland, and was themed "Taming Uncertainty".
