IfM Publications How public procurement is becoming more SME-friendly

Public procurement law will be amended in the current legislative period in order to promote both the legal certainty of award decisions as well as SME-friendliness. The aim is also to drive forward legally compliant digitalisation, promote faster award decisions and support the federal states and local authorities with simplification, digitalisation and sustainability.

In their policy brief ‘Why a paradigm shift is also important for public procurement’, Dr Nadine Schlömer-Laufen, Sebastian Schneider and Dr Annika Reiff (all IfM Bonn) argue that the legal framework for public procurement should, in principle, be designed from the perspective of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and with the involvement of SME managers. Her article has been published in the Policy Brief series ‘Entrepreneurship in Focus’, which is published by IfM Bonn and the FGF Research Network Entrepreneurship, Innovation and SMEs.
