How does the start-up activity of women in Germany develop? What reforms are necessary to make it easier for women entrepreneurs to get started? Peter Kranzusch discussed with two female founders, Fritzi Köhler-Geib, chief economist of the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau, and the president of BFB Friedemann Schmidt at the event "Which policy supports female founders?

The IfM researcher pointed out that despite the pandemic, 47,600 female freelancers had started their own business in 2021 – 2.9% more than in the previous year. The share of women in all start-ups in the liberal professions is thus almost 54 %. In contrast, the proportion of women in the commercial sector has stagnated at 30% (48.700 female founders). In order to promote the tendency to start up, Peter Kranzusch recommended reducing bureaucracy in the start-up process. In his opinion trade and tax office registrations could be combined in an online procedure.
