Participation in external events How corporate finance moderates the effects of extreme weather events

Floods are the most prevalent natural hazard in Europe. Scientific research has shown that their frequency and destructive power will continue to increase due to global warming. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are particularly vulnerable to these risks.

In his presentation ‘European SMEs, Corporate Finance, and Economic Resilience to Floods’ in mid-September at the annual conference of the Verein für Socialpolitik in Innsbruck (Austria), Dr Vinzenz Peters examined how SMEs' financial structure relates to their resilience to such shocks.
