News & Updates How corporate finance shapes SME resilience to shocks

Dr Vinzenz Peters and Flavio de Carolis (Maastricht University) have found evidence of a relationship between the leverage and debt maturity and the economic resilience of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that have been affected by floods.

The IfM researcher showed in his presentation at the Interdisciplinary European Conference on Entrepreneurship Research (IECER) in Reykjavik (Iceland) that employment growth declines after a flood, particularly among SMEs with high short-term and low long-term debt. His paper was nominated for the Best Paper Award at the IECER.
