While some see self-employment as the solution to combining family and career, others see self-employment as a major burden on the family. In his article "Self-Employment and Intimate Partner Relationships", Dr Stefan Schneck can decrease individual well-being and increase tensions in relationships. According to him, this can be attributed, on one hand, to longer working hours in self-employment and income cuts associated with starting up. On the other hand, tensions between partners can increase by an egoistic passion for work of the self-employed partners, and by the fact that the self-employed interfere in their partners’ affairs.
