Are crises an opportunity for new areas of growth? Dr Markus Rieger-Fels, Prof. Dr. Prof. Dr. Michael Stephan, Prof. Dr. Torsten Wulf (both Philipps University of Marburg), Sina Lupp (Adolf Lupp GmbH+Co. KG), Sebastian Finck (Sparkasse Marburg-Biedenkopf) and Dr Jan Holthusen (DZ BANK AG) in mid-September at the 15th forum on "Value-based corporate governance in SMEs" during the Central Hesse Entrepreneurs’ Days in Marburg.
Dr Markus Rieger-Fels explained that, historically, Mittelstand companies have repeatedly faced crises, demonstrated adaptability and innovated in response. In doing so, Mittelstand companies often set clear priorities: while they spend less on innovation on average than comparable non-Mittelstand companies, the innovations they initiate have a significantly greater impact on productivity. In light of current challenges, the top priority is to operate more productively and efficiently. In this regard, Mittelstand businesses can benefit from the increased use of technologies such as artificial intelligence.
