How attractive is vocational education in India, and what does this mean for the local labour market? Dr. Sebastian Schneider explored this question at the end of July in his presentation “The Indian Labor Market and the Demand for Vocational Education” at the international Journal of Vocational Education and Training (JVET) conference at St. Catherine's College, University of Oxford, UK.

His research findings: The large proportion of young people in India, combined with strong economic growth rates, is generating a high demand for skilled workers in India. However, there is a lack of high-quality educational opportunities in the vocational sector to meet the high demand for skilled workers from companies.
