Bureaucracy is fundamentally important. It ensures that highly complex economies can function effectively. It also provides businesses with legal certainty and planning security.
But in recent decades, the bureaucratic burden in Germany has reached a level that entrepreneurs perceive as excessive, despite all government effort. In their article “Practical checks as a sensible approach to reducing bureaucracy”, Dr Annette Icks and Dr Jonas Löher explain how the bureaucratic burden can be efficiently reduced and why it is also worth looking beyond national borders, for example to the Netherlands or the UK. Their article has been published in May in the journal "Perspektiven der Wirtschaftspolitik".
