How should university spin-offs interact with key players in their region in order to gain access to important resources and knowledge? How can they generate business growth at the same time? Dr Julia Mokhtar and Assoc. Prof. Dr Mirjam Knockaert (Ghent University, Belgium) examined these questions during a workshop held by the European Union's Joint Research Centre in Seville in mid-January.
Both emphasised in their presentation "Academic spin-off performance in ten European countries – unravelling university and region effect" the promotion of so-called "innovation ecosystems", which can be used to support the resource needs of university spin-offs.
