There are no official statistics that provide reliable information on succession events. The IfM Bonn has been regularly calculating the number of expected company successions since the mid-1990s using a specially developed estimation method. According to the current estimate, around 186,000 businesses in Germany will be up for transfer between 2026 and 2030. This means that the number of transfers is stagnating.
