External publication | 2022 Motives for cooperation between established SMEs and start-ups

Cooperations between start-ups and established Mittelstand companies are be-coming increasingly popular. This article deals with the motives for entering into such a cooperative relationship. After all, young innovative companies and es-tablished Mittelstand companies have different prerequisites. Differences are particularly evident in strategy, innovation activity, network, resources and cor-porate culture. Consequently, they also differ in their motives for entering such cooperation: While young companies tend to look for resources and network access, their established partners focus on strategic topics or concrete problem-solving.
