The chapter analyses the objectives and potential of public innovation support, particularly with regard to addressing market, system, and transformational failures. At the same time, it identifies key limitations and challenges, ranging from potential distortions of competition and administrative barriers to limited fit of existing support structures with dynamic innovation processes.
