Could artificial intelligence help mitigate the shortage of skilled workers in companies? Dr Siegrun Brink examined this question in mid-March during her presentation, "Substitute or complementary? The use of AI to alleviate the demand for skilled workers in family businesses", at the conference of German-speaking research centers and institutes for family businesses in Innsbruck. She pointed out that AI is currently used primarily for routine tasks reducing the workload of employees and lowers the demand for skilled workers. Nevertheless, increased use of AI in a complementary manner is expected to lead to personnel recruitment problems in the future. Accordingly, AI skills should be integrated more extensively into vocational and academic training.
In her presentation, Dr Rosemarie Kay explored how self-employed craftswomen can minimise the loss of sales associated with pregnancy and childbirth.
