Participation in external events In focus: Water

"Water shortages in Germany are not primarily a problem of quantity, but rather – in the face of increasing climate change – a problem of management, distribution and governance," explained Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Friederike Welter (IfM Bonn/University of Siegen) early July during the 19th Bonn Academic Summer. Together with Dr Christine Wilcken (Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety), Dr Alex Klusen (Deka Investment GmbH) and Uwe Ritzer (Süddeutsche Zeitung), she discussed the risks and conflicts over water use that are likely to arise if water becomes scarce in Germany.

During the preparation of the 2025 report by the Expert Commission on Research and Development, the IfM President had focused in particular on future-oriented innovations in water management.

The Sparkassen Finanzgruppe Foundation for Science organise the Bonn Academic Summer every year in order to bring specialists, managers, students and researchers together to think about current challenges.
