The academic study of social change and challenges has repeatedly influenced and advanced the development of entrepreneurship research in the past. But in view of changing challenges and contexts, is it not necessary to rethink fundamental assumptions, theories and methods that have hitherto been considered standard approaches to entrepreneurship research?
Professor David A. Kirsch (University of Maryland), Professor Daniel Wadhwani (University of Southern California) and Prof Dr Dr h.c. Friederike Welter (IfM Bonn/University of Siegen) examine this question in their article "Contextualzing the Canon: Sociohistorical Chance and the Future of Entre-preneurship Research". They call for more creativity and multidisciplinary engagement, as well as a willingness to break away from old organisational structures. Their academic paper was published in "Academy of Management Perspectives" at the end of October.
