Entrepreneurs prefer to pass on their life's work within the family. Dr André Pahnke, Dr Rosemarie Kay and Dr Susanne Schlepphorst have examined in a study whether and, if so, how the performance of the company influences the owner's decision on succession.
Dr André Pahnke presented the results of the IfM Bonn study in his lecture "Family Business Succession caught between transgenerational Continuation and firm Performance" at the "Workshop for Establishment Data Users" which the Instituite for Employmet Research has organised in mid-November. According to the study, it is not only the current performance that influences the succession decision of the entrepreneur, but also an unclear development of the future performance.
