We examine the market for company sales in the years from 2001 to 2016 with income tax data. Both, the number of sales and the average profits increased over time. Around 100,000 companies were sold in 2016. The average individu-al profit was equal to 83,000 €. However, a small number of sales with high prof-its is opposed by a large number of sales with losses or low profits. The average sales profits vary between economic sectors and legal forms. Our estimates about company succession propose that at least 14,000 to 17,000 sales in year 2016 were done in the course of company succession.
