Demographic change has led to a steady increase in the number of business owners retiring due to age over the past 20 years, and this trend is set to continue. As a result, relatively speaking, more and more family businesses are facing the question of succession and the associated (personnel policy) tasks. However, succession planning requires a different set of human resources tools than those used for the succession planning of leadership positions.
