Das IfM Bonn veröffentlicht seine Forschungsergebnisse vorrangig in den eigenen Publikationsreihen: Studienergebnisse werden als "IfM-Materialien" – oder in komprimierter Form als Denkpapier – herausgegeben. Ergebnisse aus dem Bereich Statistik erscheinen in der Reihe "Daten und Fakten". Diskussions- und Fachbeiträge aus allen Forschungsbereichen werden als "Working Papers" publiziert.

Daneben wurden bis 2012 ausgewählte Aufsätze in der Fachreihe "Schriften zur Mittelstandsforschung" (Gabler Verlag) veröffentlicht. Unter "Externe Veröffentlichungen" finden sich zahlreiche Aufsätze von IfM-Wissenschaftlern, die in (referierten) Fachzeitschriften und in externen Publikationsreihen erschienen sind.

The income situation of the self-employed and their capability of retirement provision

We examine German administrative tax data and find that six in ten self-employed individuals obtain annual incomes of less than 10,000 Euro with their entrepreneurial activity. However, many of these self-employed achieve additional incomes or partners contribute to household income.
